Police in Texarkana, Arkansas are working to protect children from abuse by raising awareness.

At a public luncheon Tuesday, officials say in the first three months of 2018, more than ninety-four hundred cases of abuse were reported across Arkansas.  Experts say sometimes, children who are abused can become withdrawn and display significant behavior changes.

TAPD Officer Kristi Bennett, said, “It’s just trying to be in tune with individuals and the children that you are around, whether they’re related to you or not, by asking questions, talking  to them, and making sure that you’re secure that they’re comfortable with the environment that they’re living in.”

If you suspect abuse, call 911 or the Child Abuse Hotline at 1-800-482-5964.

Tuesday’s luncheon was part of TAPD’s quarterly Luncheon with the Law program.
