TEXARKANA, Ark. – (KTAL/KMSS)  Runners representing the Texarkana, Arkansas Police Department hit the pavement Monday morning for this year’s law enforcement torch run.

It’s an event that takes place across the state to honor Arkansas athletes competing in this year’s Special Olympics.

The group representing TAPD was set to cover 18 miles. They planned to hand off the torch to the Hope Police Department. “It’ll end up making its way to the steps of the state capitol, where the main eternal flame of hope will be lit on Thursday to kick off the statewide games,” said Sgt. Kristi Bennett.

Law enforcement across Arkansas have raised more than $500,000 over the past year for the Special Olympics Arkansas program.
