TASD parents invited to cybersecurity workshop

Parents that have children in the Texarkana, Arkansas School District are invited to take part in a cybersecurity workshop Tuesday night, January 15th.

An officer with TAPD will discuss internet dangers, social media, cyber-bullying and illegal online activity.  Law enforcement officials said they’re finding a higher rate of predators using social media and video games as an inlet to contact kids.

Parents are encouraged to be more involved with their child’s online activities.  TAPD Sgt. Rick Cockrell said, “You might not know what Tumblr is, you might not know what Snapchat is, or the different
types of texting apps that they use, or the anonymous texting apps, or the hidden vaults that you
can add to your phone to hide certain information that you don’t want people to see.  Those things
are out there and if parents don’t know what to look for, then they’re not going to know what their kids
are using.”

The workshop will be held at 5:15pm on Tuesday, January 15th at the North Heights Junior High gynmansium.  All TASD parents are welcome.
