TASD teacher of the year: I’m blown away and I’m honored

The Texarkana Arkansas School District recognizes a teacher at Union Davinci Magnet School as teacher of the year.

“I’m telling you I’m blown away and I’m honored,” said Juanita Harris, TASD Teacher of the Year.

Harris is still in shock that she has been named the 2018 Texarkana Arkansas School District Teacher of the Year.
“I’m still smiling from ear to ear just to have somebody say. We see what you’re doing, we value it and we appreciate it,” said Harris .
Harris teaches first grade at Union Da Vinci Magnet School. She joined the razorbacks in 2012 and last November received the Bessie B. Moore Award for teaching her students economics.
“Teaching has always been a passion of mine. We have the ability as teachers to impact their lives forever. What we say,how we love on them, what we teach them. They’ll remember those things,” said Harris.
Each day she goes above and beyond to incorporate fun activities in her lessons to engage her students.”They get up they dance they sing they move what have you  and then the activities that we do are based on the curriculum,” said Harris.

Harris says she is the woman she is today because of God and her family. She hopes to continue to be an inspiration.”My hope and my prayer is that when my students are well beyond first grade. They’ll remember this is what Ms. Harris taught me,” said Harris.
