In Little River County, some families are outraged over what they suspect is raw sewage flooding their apartment complex.
People living at Ashdown Apartments say they are dealing with health issues because of raw sewage leaking into their homes.
Sherrie Jones recalls,”I was vomiting, dry heaving, and sliming, Stuff that I had never had happen.”
Residents say they regularly smell a foul odor and believe it has something to do with the sewage system.
Resident Mary Jones says, “the smell would put me out. Make me deathly sick. I had to go to the hospital, but they didn’t do anything for me.”
Tenants say they have been trying to get their landlord to permanently fix the issue for over a year. The leasing office closed shortly after we arrived and remained closed the entire 90 minutes we were on the property. Calls to the manager have not been returned.
Jones adds, “They just kind of side step it.”She says because her toilet regularly over flows she has taken matters into her own hands.”I put a pool sanitizer in there. Which has got chlorine in it that kills bacteria. I wasn’t given that by anybody and I put it in my commode to kill the bacteria.”.
Council member Jill Turner says she has not received any complaints, but plans to look into the problem.
