TEXARKANA, Ark. (KTAL/KMSS) – On Monday, Arkansas-side board members will consider a proposal to allow animal control officials to seek money for a new shelter.
Charles Lokey, Animal Care & Adoption Center director, said the original portion of the current shelter was built in the early 1960’s and is plagued with electrical and drainage issues.
That portion of the shelter currently houses the shelter’s new intakes and is separate from the current adoption floor.
“It takes the majority of my maintenance money just to try to keep it up. And it’s always something going down always something broke the plumbing was old black iron pipe from back in the 60’s so I have a plumber on speed dial,” Lokey said.
Any further steps to pursue funding would have to be approved by the board at a later date.
The Texarkana, Arkansas board of directors meeting is set for May 20 at 6 p.m. at city hall.
