TEXARKANA, Ark. – (KTAL/KMSS) Monday night, the Texarkana, Arkansas board of directors approved a proposal to allow city officials to search for financing options for a new animal shelter.
Proposed plans would include a new adoption floor and make use of the current adoption floor for new intakes. Shelter officials said one of their current buildings is on life support, plagued with water and electric issues.
The proposed cost for the project is $875,000. “All City Manager Haskin will do is now is go out and seek people that might be interested in financing that for the city, see what the payment, the terms of the financing would be, what kind of payments we’d be looking at,” said Mayor Allen Brown.
Steps to pursue funding would have to be approved by the board at a later date. Mayor Brown added that the city’s finances are in decent shape with sales tax revenue up in the first quarter.
