TEXARKANA, Ark. (KTAL/KMSS) – Some restaurant owners joined the city’s planning commission Tuesday evening to discuss the possibility of an entertainment district downtown.

Commissioners discussed holding a contest to get ideas from the public regarding the name of the district. Recently passed legislation would allow cities to create the districts, which would have their own rules regarding possession of alcohol.

Commissioners also discussed setting hours of 11 a.m. to 2 a.m., six days a week, with modified hours on Sunday.

Members also want to keep the district small and walkable. “We’re gonna make the district, not huge, but give it room to grow if need be and we can always shrink it if need be. So, we’re right now just working on a blueprint, an outline, a place to start,” said Boots Thomas, planning commission member.

The group acknowledged there will be several more meetings to come and next plans to seek input from the city’s police department.
