Texarkana prepares to “shine” with special event

It’s going to be a night to remember for hundreds of people with special needs in Texarkana.

“I’m excited, I’m nervous…a little overwhelmed,” said Allie Meredith.

The 16-year-old is getting ready to shine, from the dress to the attitude.

“My mom was against the ballgown, but she loved it when she saw it on me,” said Meredith. “You have to feel good to look good and be confident.”

It’s for a very special occasion, Tim Tebow’s Night to Shine Event. Dozens of volunteers spent the week setting up for this event, all to help make the nearly 1,000 invited guests expected to attend feel like royalty.

“They will come down the red carpet, there will be a hallway full of people cheering them on, clapping for them,” said Amber Ferguson with the Holiday Inn Convention Center. “It makes them be special. It’s only about them for one night.”

“Last year I thought my dad was gonna cry,” Meredith said. “He was just so happy to see me happy.”

This year she’s hoping to have another night to remember.

“Let’s get ready to have the night of our lives,” said Meredith.

The invitation-only event is free for attendees and made possible completely through donations.
