TEXARKANA, TEXAS- (KTAL/KMSS)  — The City of Texarkana, Texas pulled an agenda item to file for additional water rights from Wright Patman Lake shortly before it’s scheduled council meeting on Tuesday.

A city spokesperson said they decided to pull the item so that they could consider a joint resolution with Riverbend Water District.

Earlier Tuesday, a spokesperson said Texarkana, Texas said securing water rights is important because it will allow for expansion and the city wants to be ready.

“If we have a population growth, if we have large industry that moves in, this will be the key to making sure we can provide access to water,” said Lisa Thompson.

The resolution that was pulled from Tuesday’s agenda, if passed, would have allowed the city of Texarkana, Texas to pay an application fee of up to $90,000 to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.

Texarkana, Texas officials may address the topic again at its next meeting, which is set for June 10.
