A Texarkana, Texas woman has been arrested, accused of striking an elderly man crossing the street in a motorized wheelchair with her vehicle and leaving the scene.

29-year-old Ciara Trotter, 29, is charged with leaving the scene of an accident involving injury.

It happened Tuesday morning on Summerhill Road at New Boston Road, according to Texarkana, Texas police. Witnesses told police that the elderly man had waited for the light to turn green and was just starting across the road in the crosswalk when Trotter made a right turn off of New Boston Road and struck him. They say 29-year-old Ciara Trotter immediately fled the scene without stopping, leaving the man lying in the middle of the road.

When Trotter failed to stop, one of the witnesses followed her to a nearby apartment complex and blocked her vehicle in a parking spot until officers could get there.

“The man was very lucky,” TAPD said in a Facebook post sharing details of the arrest. “He only (suffered) some minor scrapes on his knees and hand, but his wheelchair was damaged pretty badly.”

The man was taken to Christus St. Michael Hospital for treatment.

Police say Trotter also had five misdemeanor warrants that were served on her upon her arrest. She is currently being held in the Bi-State Jail, where her bond was set at $15,000 for the felony charge, plus another $1,208 for the five misdemeanor warrants.
