Texas side delays new fire station funding

Local

The building of three new fire stations in Texarkana, Texas is being delayed for a few years.

City officials said the funding is not in place yet.  City Manager John Whitson said they’re looking at fiscal year 2023 instead, but that could improve.

In the meantime, officials are also considering whether to close one of the city’s five stations.  The question comes after a review of comparable cities, like Longview.  Whitson said, “Is it right to have five or is it better to have four?  Or is it possible to have four?  What is the answer?  And so, I’ve asked the fire chief to review that and come back to me with a recommendation as to whether we can get by with four or five.”

The three fire stations slated to be relocated to a more central location in their respective districts include those on West Third, Richmond and Summerhill Roads.
