The Louisiana Film Prize is kicking off its eighth year with a celebration tonight at the Robinson Film Center.
The free kickoff event is scheduled from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm and will include a networking mixer for filmmakers, a celebration of the local community, and special announcements about the 2019 competition along with exciting news from filmmakers who have competed in the Film Prize over the years. All community members who love the Film Prize are encouraged to attend.
“Last year, Film Prize was elevated to a new level by the talents of filmmakers from home and across the country,” said Gregory Kallenberg, Executive Director of the Prize Foundation. “The local community has been key in making all of the filmmakers and the festival successful, and we want everyone to celebrate that success with us on January 9th.”
The 2018 competition saw the largest number of local filmmakers since the first year of this award-winning national competition, which boasts the world’s largest cash prize of $50,000. At Prize Fest 2018, voting audiences and celebrity filmmaker judges selected Jonnie Stapleton’s “Funky Butt” as the grand prize winner. Competing teams also won filmmaking grants, distribution deals, and festival appearances along with acting and other awards.
