Track of tornado-producing storm over 150 miles long

Local

(KTAL/KMSS) – A look back at the thunderstorms that produced the tornado damage across the area shows that one storm maintained a rotation for nearly 180 miles during a time span of over five hours.  Note that a tornado was not on the ground during this entire time but likely touched down several times during its trip through our area.

The National Weather Service will be busy in the coming days surveying the path of this storm.

Preliminary results show that the long track system produced EF-2 damage near San Augustine, TX and EF-3 damage in the Ruston, LA area.

A second short-lived storm produced a brief tornado that touched down near Mooringsport, LA.  NWS survey teams indicate that their preliminary survey of this area indicates EF-1 damage.
