The wrongful death lawsuit for the family of an East Texas woman who was stabbed to death in a hotel continues.
It’s day two of the trial and they’re seeking more than a million dollars in damages.
Kari Dunn is the woman behind Kari’s Law. Kari was attacked in 2013 by her husband in a hotel room in Marshall, Texas.
Kari’s nine-year-old daughter repeatedly tried calling 9-1-1 but never connected because she didn’t know she had to dial “9” before an external number.
Her family is suing OM Lodging, which owned the hotel where she died.
The family’s lawyer called a retired trauma surgeon to the stand.
During his testimony, he said Kari could have survived if medics would have arrived earlier.
Kari’s father testified in court today and broke down in tears. He claims one of his granddaughters, Kari’s middle child was waking up with nightmares days after her death. All of the children have had counseling and are doing fine.
He says if the family wins the lawsuit, the money will be given to Kari’s three children.
All three were inside that hotel room the night she died.
