TTFD and Dominos promote fire prevention

Some Texarkana, Texas residents may get a free pizza tomorrow, but only if they have a working smoke detector.
According to the National Fire Protection Association three of every five home fire deaths resulted from fires in homes with no smoke alarms or no working smoke alarms.

“I always say smoke alarms, smoke detectors probably save more lives than firefighters because early detection is always the key in families and people getting out safely,”said Chris Black, TTFD Assistant Chief.
In an effort to show that smoke detectors saves lives the Texarkana Texas Fire Department and Dominos on Richmond Road are teaming up to randomly deliver free pizzas to people with working smoke detectors. If the smoke detectors aren’t working, firefighters will install alarms for free or replace batteries.
“It’s important to make sure they’re working, test them monthly. We replace the batteries if need be. Twice a year. A lot of new ones have ten year battery life which is great. You should still test them,” said Black.
Black says from the time a smoke detector goes off. You may only have one to two minutes to evacuate.”Early detection gives you the warning where you get out of the house. Get everyone out of the house safely. Then once you get out the house call nine-one-one and we’ll get there,” said Black.
Firefighters will deliver pizzas tomorrow afternoon from one to three.
