Two homicide cases unfolding in Desoto Parish

Local News

The Desoto Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating two separate homicide cases. The bodies of both victims were discovered just days apart.

The Desoto Parish Sheriff Jayson Richardson said these homicides are not connected. The bodies were found 30 miles apart. But one may solve a missing persons case out of another state.

Sheriff Richardson said someone called police Tuesday afternoon after finding a body of a white male off Asseff Road near Interstate 49. Investigators believe the body was there for a week. It was in a state of decomposition, but wrapped in plastic with multiple gunshot wounds. They believe the victim was a missing person from another state, but are waiting to speak with family members before identifying the person. The Sheriff’s Office also believes evidence and closeness to the interstate reveals the person was killed somewhere else and taken to Desoto Parish.

“It’s heavily wooded and not a lot of traffic or travel in that area. So it was just in a place that very few people would venture to if they don’t have business in that area,” Sheriff Jayson Richardson said.

Richardson asks if anyone noticed something or someone suspicious to contact police.
In the separate homicide investigation, the burned remains of 25-year-old Tony Holmes of Shreveport were found Saturday in Frierson with one gunshot wound. His body was discovered by a worker near a well site off White Springs Road. It’s another rural location that usually only well-site workers travel. Holmes was reported missing in February in Shreveport.

“Just from the information we have as well as the evidence we collected at the scene we don’t believe it happened at that scene,” Richardson said.

The Desoto Parish Sheriff’s Office is working with Shreveport Police on the Holmes homicide case. So far in the investigation, officials believe both crimes happened outside of Desoto Parish.

No suspects have been named. Sheriff Richardson said the cases are just now unfolding. Anyone with information on either case is asked to contact law enforcement.
