We have an update on an east Texas animal shelter that was housing dogs and cats in what some called deplorable conditions.
Friday afternoon we revisited the site of the now closed shelter. Cleanup efforts at the location started at the end of last year.
More than 50 dogs were removed from the Marion County Humane Society in Jefferson. In November authorities were tipped off, by a volunteer when they learned the animal’s pens were filled with trash and feces.
We reached out to someone associated with the Friends of Jefferson Animals. We were told at least six cats are still at the site.
A group out of of Longview is in discussions to help with the cats. 51 dogs were rescued and all of them have been adopted out except four.
