(KTVE) A West Carroll Parish mom is under arrest for murder after investigators say they found her passed out and laying on top of her baby.
Cynthia Marie Sciortino is being held on more than a million-dollar bond for 2nd Degree murder, as well as a plethora of other charges, after authorities found her lifeless baby beneath her on her sofa.
Just after 2 p.m. Monday, the West Carroll Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a woman passed out and laying on her baby.
When they arrived, deputies discovered the young baby on the couch and unresponsive. EMS crews checked the infant for vital signs, but said none were found. The child was pronounced dead at the scene by a coroner.
A search warrant executed inside the residence turned up illegal narcotics and empty liquor bottles. Deputies say Sciortino, admitted she had used drugs and alcohol while she was the sole caretaker of the child.
Blood samples were taken from Sciortino with the toxicology results to be determined through the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab.
In addition to the 2nd Degree Murder charge, detectives charged Sciortino with two counts of Possession of Schedule II CDS; and 2nd Degree Cruelty to Juveniles.
In addition, Sciortino arrested for two misdemeanor warrants for Jumping Bail and Cyberstalking. Her bond was set at $1,109,000…By Andy Pederson
