On Newsfeed Now for March 4, we began with a stop in Alabama where the death toll stood at 23 on Monday morning after Sunday afternoon’s tornado in Lee County. We had a recap of the destructive storm that tore through the rural community of Beauregard leaving a path of devastation a mile long.
Next, at 2:40 into the show, we took you to Wichita, Kansas for a salute to a veteran. KSWN’s Gwyn Bevel shared John Mock’s story of survival and rescue in a World War II German prisoner of war camp.
We went back to Alabama at 8:45 into the show to bring you a live look at some of the damage. WIAT’s Conan Gasque provided an update on the rescue operation underway and the beginning of the cleanup.
Then, we dropped in on Monroe, Louisiana for a preview of Mardi Gras at 13:30. For many celebrations, the top item on the menu will be crawfish. KTVE’s Chelsea Jones had a look at why this year’s crop of mudbugs are bigger and how that means big money for businesses in several states.
Our final stop at 18:00 took us further south to Lafayette, where KLFY’s Caroline Marcello told us about the Krewe of Xanadu’s focus on the men and women who have served our country. The annual ball paid a special tribute to those on active duty as well as veterans.
