Shreveport police are still looking for the person who is responsible for shooting and killing officer Chateri Payne.
Public Information Officer, Cpl. Marcus Hines says although there are a lot of speculations on social media about who did the crime they still have to find probable cause to issue any warrants for arrests.
He also says for the integrity of the case there are certain things he can not share with the public to avoid putting the investigation in jeopardy.
“It is against the law for us to speculate. We’re bound by a different set of standards versus a citizen who can recklessly throw out allegations. We can’t do that. We hear what the people are saying, we hear what the streets are saying with all of these allegations but we simply can not operate in those parameters. We have to operate within the parameters of the law,” said Hines.
Shortly before 8:30 pm on January 9th, Payne was shot multiple times outside of a home on Midway Avenue.
Payne was in uniform and headed to start her shift.
Shreveport police Chief Ben Raymond says there was a child in the home when the shooting occurred.
Hines tells us the police department appreciates everyone’s concerns and support at this time.
Payne’s funeral arrangements have been set for Saturday at Summer Grove Baptist Church.
