1 man dead after concrete pump truck collapse off I-20; OSHA to handle investigation

SMITH COUNTY, TX (KETK) – A Texarkana, Texas man has died after a concrete pump truck collapsed just off I-20 East in Smith County Wednesday morning.

The man has been identified as Jose Pena Garcia, 48, of Texarkana, Texas.

According to Smith County PIO Larry Christian, his body has been transported to Forensic Medical in Tyler for autopsy. 

As he was pouring concrete at the hose end of the boom, the weight apparently shifted causing the entire apparatus to become unbalanced.

Garcia was subsequently struck in the head by the boom and knocked to the ground.



An official at the scene has confirmed to KETK News that the man killed had family members working with him on-site at the time of the collapse.

The man’s body has been sent for autopsy in Tyler.

According to officials, the man was working on a concrete pump it fell on him.

The collapse happened just after 9 a.m. 

OSHA will be investigating the incident. It remains unclear what caused the collapse. 

The crane was at the LoneStar Truck Group building just off mile marker 567.

An official will be giving an update shortly. 



A concrete pump truck has collapsed at the LoneStar Truck Group building just off I-20 and HWY 155 at mile marker 567, according to the company.

An employee confirmed the collapse and Smith County officials are responding.

It is unclear whether anyone was hurt in the collapse.
