The man accused of killing his girlfriend in Hooks, Texas in 2013 now faces life in prison in her murder.
Toddrick Matthews, 40, was indicted last year and arrested in Dallas. A Bowie County jury found him guilty Friday in the death of Sonjha Banks.
Her body was found in the front yard of her home early on the morning of September 9, 2013, after a fire was reported at the residence.
Matthews claimed he returned home to find the fire and Banks dead in the bathtub. Authorities say it was apparent she’d been beaten. Prosecutors say he put her body in the tub and attempted to set the trailer home on fire to cover up the crime.
Matthews could be sentenced to life in prison.
