CASS COUNTY, Texas (KTAL/KMSS) — A Mount Pleasant ISD teacher is on administrative leave after his arrest on a charge of inappropriate behavior with a six-year-old boy.
Kennie Lewis Cook, Jr., 32, was indicted last month on a charge of aggravated sexual assault of a child in Atlanta, Texas.
Mount Pleasant ISD officials said after his arrest in February, Cook, a high school teacher and assistant band director, immediately reported to the superintendent’s office to address the matter. Superintendent Judd Marshall said Cook was immediately placed on administrative leave.
Marshall said Cook was in his fifth year with the district, and there have been no complaints about him. He said, “the kids are devastated.”
Marshall said a decision regarding Cook’s employment will be made once the case against him is concluded.
Cook’s arrest warrant states the six-year-old’s mother came forward after her son told her that he’d been touched by an older person.
Cook was released on $500,000 bond.
