(NBC News) – Vacation season is already shaping up to be a busy one.
With more disposal income, more Americans can afford to splurge this summer, although if you’re looking to save, a winter destination may be a good option.
Resorts that might go for $600 a night during peak ski season can be had for $150 or less a night during the middle of the summer.
Discount travel options are always available, but approach with caution.
“With airlines in particular, the cheaper the air fare is, particularly with a discount carrier, your probably adding more risk into your vacation,” warns “Points Guy” editorial director Scott Mayerowitz.
Those risks include risks like having your flight cancelled and fewer alternative flights.
