‘Rage Rooms’ let you smash away stress

Top Stories

Rage rooms, also known as smash rooms or anger rooms, are all the rage right now.

They offer a safe place for people to smash away stress by taking a hammer to a computer screen or hurling an ax through a car window.

Hundreds of these businesses are popping up across the country, including the House of Purge in Charlotte, North Carolina. With prices starting around $40, customers can pick out items to break, suit up in safety gear and grab a weapon of choice. Owner Vantroy Greene says 95 percent of his customers are women, who keep coming back for more.

“It’s about relieving that anger and frustration that’s been built up for years or weeks,” said Greene.

While there are many anecdotes about the therapeutic benefits, rage rooms are merely recreational. They are not considered to be a replacement for anger management or mental health treatment.

Customers are required to sign a waiver before pummeling their problems.
