What’s on the March 30 ballot?

Voters in northwest Louisiana will be voting on several ballot propositions in the March 30 election.

CADDO PARISH:

Fire District No. Six Proposition
(Millage Renewal)

Shall Caddo Parish Fire District No. Six, State of Louisiana (the “District”), continue to levy a special tax of six (6) mills on all property subject to taxation in the District (an estimated $226,370 reasonably expected at this time to be collected from the levy of the tax for an entire year), for a period of ten (10) years, beginning with the year 2020 and ending with the year 2029, for the purpose of acquiring, constructing, improving, maintaining and/or operating fire protection facilities and equipment for the District, including the cost of obtaining water for fire protection purposes?

Fire District Number Five Proposition

Shall Caddo Parish Fire District Number Five, State of Louisiana (the “District”), levy and collect a tax not to exceed twenty (20) mills (the “Tax”) (an estimated $1,590,601.20 is reasonably expected at this time to be collected from the levy of the Tax for an entire year) on all property subject to taxation within said District, excluding that property annexed by the City of Shreveport prior to the election, for a period of fifteen (15) years, beginning with the year 2020 and ending with the year 2034, for the purpose of maintaining and operating the District’s fire protection facilities, for purchasing fire trucks and other firefighting equipment and paying other costs of maintaining and operating the fire department, including salaries, obtaining water for fire protection purposes, including charges for fire hydrant rentals and services, and all other costs incidental thereto?

NATCHITOCHES PARISH:

Sales Tax District No. 2 Proposition
(Sales Tax)

Shall Sales Tax District No. 2 of the Parish of Natchitoches, State of Louisiana (the “District”) whose boundaries are the Parish of Natchitoches excluding the areas within the present boundaries of the City of Natchitoches and the Town of Campti, be authorized to levy and collect for a period of twenty (20) years from and after July 1, 2019, a tax of one-half of one percent (1/2%) (the “Tax”) upon the sale at retail, the use, the lease or rental, the consumption, and the storage for use or consumption, of tangible personal property and on sales of services within the District as defined by law, (an estimated $1,000,000 expected at this time to be collected from the levy of the Tax for an entire year), with the proceeds thereof (after paying the expenses of collecting and administering the Tax), to be dedicated for constructing, improving and maintaining public roads and bridges in the District and further authorized to fund into Bonds for capital purposes stated above?

SABINE PARISH:

Town of Zwolle Proposition
(Sales Tax Renewal)

Shall the Town of Zwolle, Parish of Sabine, State of Louisiana (the “Town”), be authorized to continue to levy and collect a tax of one percent (1%) (the “Tax”) upon the sale at retail, the use, the lease or rental, the consumption, and the storage for use or consumption, of tangible personal property and on sales of services in the Town, as defined by law (an estimated $330,000 reasonably expected at this time to be collected from the levy of the Tax for an entire year), for a period of fifteen (15) years, beginning October 1, 2020, with the revenues derived from the Tax to be dedicated and used for the purposes of constructing, improving, maintaining and operating water/sewerage systems, new and existing streets, providing adequate law enforcement and general operating expenses?

WEBSTER PARISH:

Town of Sarepta Proposition

Shall the Mayor of the Town of Sarepta, with the approval of the Town of Sarepta Council, be authorized to appoint a marshal who is the Chief of Police for the Town of Sarepta?
