Ashdown Panthers 23 in 23 2018

Matt Richardson said, “I’ve got a sophomore quarterback that started four games last year.”

The Ashdown Panthers advanced to the state quarterfinals last season despite several key injuries including a season ending injury to quarterback Jaden Hill. Now Ashdown played three guys under center last year including then Freshman Braylon Bishop. And boy was he good finishing 3-1 as the starting quarterback with the only loss coming at the hands of State Champion Arkadelphia.

Matt Richardson said, “He’s a different guy. He’s a different guy this summer than he was last year. The confidence level out of this kid is unbelievable and that’s what you need at quarterback. You need a guy that hey I’m not scared to put me in the fire and get me to go to work. He’s that kind of guy.”

Tyler Burns said, “It was really amazing coming straight off the junior high team. We really didn’t know what to expect and he gave us all he had. It’s amazing what he was able to do and he’s only going to grow up from here. The mistakes are going to go down and the big plays are going to go up and by the time he’s a senior he’ll be just as good as Jaden.”

The Panthers are losing several star players including a pair of division-1 signees as well as Hill, who’s at LSU to play baseball, but despite that Ashdown is planning to build on last years success.

Anthony Hopkins said, “We want to come in and have a great season. We lost a lot of seniors this year with a lot of leadership and we have to step up this year so we got to step up.”

Tyler Burns said, “A state championship is always nice to go after and we expect to win a state championship every year at Ashdown. Just play hard, give everything we’ve got and just whatever happens happens.”

Ashdown opens the 20-18 campaign on August 24th when they take on Hamburg at home.
