Byrd runs away from Shreve in Backyard Brawl

A big win for the Byrd Yellow Jackets as they take down their rival, the Captain Shreve Gators, 34-17, and Byrd in full control from the get go, leading 24-3 at halftime. Now this was a big win for the Yellow Jackets as they were coming off of two straight losses, and coach Suggs says it was crucial that they got off to a fast start.

Mike Suggs said, “oh very important. We started off 2-0, and we didn’t play the best football we could play, but we played solid and we didn’t turn the ball over. The next two ball games, against Sulphur, we played good defense. Offensively we moved the ball up and down the field, we just turned it over too much, and the same thing last week. We fumbled four times in our first seven snaps, and we were down 21-0. So, it was really important for us to get off to a good start and get this ball game under our belt.”

So with the win, the Yellow Jackets move to 1-1 in district play, and the district slate continues next week as they take on Southwood.
