LSU Basketball landed a big piece for their 2019-2020 roster after the commitment of 5-star PF Trendon Watford.
Watford picked the Tigers over Memphis, Indiana, and Alabama at a ceremony at his high school in Birmingham.
The two-time Alabama Mr. Basketball measures in at 6’9″ and 230 pounds, and joins two 3-star guards as part of LSU’s 2019 recruiting class.
The No. 17 rated prospect nationally, was the highest-rated uncommited prospect before today’s decision.
He is listed as the No. 4 PF in the country based on the 247 Sports Composite rankings.

LSU Basketball Coach Will Wade announced Monday that the athletics department has received and approved scholarship players for five-star power forward Trendon Watford of Mountain Brook High School in Birmingham, Alabama.
Watford is 6-9 and 230 pounds and has led Mountain Brook to three straight Class 7A state titles and averaged 23.7 points, 11.8 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 2.1 steals and 2.5 blocks per game during his senior season.
Watford is ranked No. 15 by Rivals.com, No. 17 on the 247sports.com composite list of the nation’s best players and No. 19 on the ESPN 100 listing for the 2019 recruiting class. 247sports also ranks him as the No. 4 power forward in the country.
“We are very excited to welcome Trendon Watford to our LSU Basketball family,” said Coach Wade. “He is a versatile forward who has a unique ability to make plays for the team and himself. He’s proven that his game translates to winning at every level. We look forward to playing a role in his continued development.”
Watford won back-to-back Mr. Basketball awards and played in five all-star games including the prestigious McDonald’s All-American game and the Jordan Brand Classic. He had 10 points, seven rebounds and six assists in the McDonald’s game and finished with 18 points and seven boards in the Jordan Brand contest.
He finished his career with 3,567 points, ranking among the top 10 in Alabama High School Athletic Association scoring history, and set a new AHSAA career record with 1,909 career rebounds.
Watford is the third signee for LSU for the 2019-20 season along with combo guard James Bishop of Mount Saint Joseph’s High in Baltimore, Maryland and Charles Manning, Jr., a shooting guard from Florida SouthWestern State College in Fort Myers, Florida. Manning is from Riverhead, New York.
