Extra Inning Experience Helping Benton

Sports

The Benton Tigers finally got that quarterfinal monkey off their back.

The Tigers have lost in the state quarterfinals in each of the last three years that is until this year.

Nothing came easy for this Benton team in this years playoffs.

The Tigers have played in 3-extra inning games, including winning a 9-inning thriller in the decisive game three at Breaux Bridge this weekend.

They feel like that experience will help them this weekend.

J.D. Stephens said, “The last two weekends we’ve had countless at bats with pressure. Pitchers had to make countless pitches with the game on the line. Ground balls with the winning run at third base and have to field it and throw the guy out at first. Each faze of the game we’ve repped with pressure.”

Garrett Hable said, “It’s no longer the best two out of three series it’s just one game now. Those extra innings was do or die and nobody panicked so I feel like everyone is going into Friday comfortable.”

Benton will take on West Ouachita on Friday morning in the 4A state semifinals. First pitch set for 10:30 down in Sulphur.
