BABE LAUFENBERG/SILVER STAR NATION: Hello everyone, I’m Babe Laufenberg with this weeks Inside Slant. In the movie Captain Phillips, Somali pirates commandeered the ship. One of them looked Tom Hanks straight in the eye and said ‘I’m the captain now”. That was a very famous scene. And by the way it was unscripted. This wasn’t. Six Dallas Cowboys can now make that same claim. They are the captains now. Those six captains are Dan Bailey on special teams. Sean Lee, Orlando Scandrick and Tyrone Crawford on defense. Jason Witten and Dak Prescott on offense. The head coach was emotional today as he enumerated the character virtues of the players selected.
JASON GARRETT/COWBOYS HEAD COACH: Just a great honor. It may be one of the best honors an NFL player receives. That his peers, the guys he’s with every day, his teammates they choose him to lead that particular unit.
DAK PRESCOTT/COWBOYS QUARTERBACK: It’s an honor just to be voted by my peers, by my teammates, basically be voted to lead. So it’s special and something I put along, amongst all my acknowledgements.
BABE LAUFENBERG/SILVER STAR NATION: Dak was indeed voted on to lead. And that’s exactly what he’ll do this Sunday against the New York Giants. And as the Cowboys get ready to defense their NFC East title this season keep this in mind. No team in the NFC East has repeated as champions since the Philadelphia Eagles in 2004. With this week’s Inside Slant I’m Babe Laufenberg at The Star in Frisco.
