Highly-Touted Safety Jalen Catalon Featured in this Week’s Recruiting Report

Fayetteville, AR-

Drew Amman: “We are back on the show to talk recruiting and that is with as always our recruiting guy Richard Davenport from WholeHogSports and the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. It was a big week this past week RD as KJ Jefferson decided to commit to the Hogs. He’s a dual threat QB. He’s exactly what Chad Morris and company are looking for. I understand his mom and grandma are really happy with the Hogs.”

Richard Davenport: “Yeah, yeah they are. I was able to talk to them. I was at his announcement on Friday and mom was definitely sold on Arkansas after visiting with KJ April 6th and going down to the Red/White game the day after. You have got to give coach Craddock a lot of credit in the way he recruited KJ and his mother and sold them basically on the relationship with the coaching staff and the offense. KJ said that the visit on April 6th-7th basically sowed up Arkansas being his future school. You said it. He’s everything you are looking for in a dual threat quarterback. 6-3, 210 pounds. Great frame. Great size. Very good arm. Obviously very good speed. He can hurt you in the air and on the ground. So he’s everything, if you had a bio the bio that KJ has is what you are looking for.”

Drew Amman: “Alright let’s talk about Connor Noland. Because this kid he is just even kiel. He is such a first class kid all the way. He is a star in baseball and football. We all know he’s coming to Arkansas for that. 6-3, 209. Let’s talk about what he did in the 6A Final. Because Greenwood easily wins that one. He had 12 strikeouts. Only allowed 2 hits. He was the game MVP. But what about Connor just you know really in general stands out. Just sum him up.”

Richard Davenport:”Well the whole year he had more than 130 strikeouts for the year which is obviously very impressive. Only gave up 22 hits and 4 earned runs for the entire season. It was a dominating year, dominating performance yesterday. Great way to end his career. He’ll be on campus in about a week or so for football. Obviously he is going to try to play both sports.”

Drew Amman: “Alright 2019 safety Jalen Catalon. 5-10, 185 from Mansfield, Texas. Has the Hogs in his top 8. He’s a four star. When I say star this dude is really a star. I understand he is playing both sides of the ball.”

Richard Davenport: “Yeah quarterback and safety. I’ve told Jalen and several other people and have said publicly he has got probably one of the most impressive films I have ever seen for a high school safety. He recently narrowed down his schools to eight. Arkansas is one of them. He hasn’t even visited Arkansas. So you have to give coach Morris, coach Mark Smith who is recruiting him a lot of credit. They have developed a really good relationship and has convinced him that Arkansas should be in the running for him. So he does plan to visit Arkansas fairly soon. I would like to see what happens after that because he hasn’t even visited top 8. What happens after that we’ll see.”

Drew Amman:  “Alright let’s jump up one class to the 2020 class. Talking about a wide receiver now, Zeriah Beason, 6-1, 185. He has lightning quick speed, 4.4 in the 40. This guy has an Arkansas offer.”

Richard Davenport: “Yeah he is closing in on about 20 offers. He told me Arkansas will probably be one of his top schools. Because he is very close to the Rawleigh Williams family. He has visited the campus about three times to attend games. He understands what Arkansas is like in a lot of ways. He plans to visit Arkansas fairly soon. But you said it. He is just an outstanding athlete and outstanding receiver. He is a guy that I think Arkansas will have a shot at because I know Rawleigh’s dad has talked well to his dad about Arkansas. So it is always good when you have a connection like that.”

Drew Amman: “Let’s close about thirty seconds on this, the coaches on the road this past week recruiting. But kind of lay out how things are modified now in terms of what they can and can not do in recruiting moving forward here let’s say for the next couple of weeks.”

Richard Davenport: “Well Friday will be their last day on the road. I am sure they are ready for that to spend some more time with their families. When they go to schools they can’t have interaction with the kids. But they just go there to evaluate and basically send a signal to the kids that you are a priority and we are very interested in you. The kids are very receptive after those guys visit because that says they are very interested in them. You are also looking 20 and 21 classes to. Definitely a very busy last month or so. Before we go I’ve got to say congratulations to MacKenzie my niece and Harmony Grove they won the 3A title in softball yesterday.”

Drew Amman: “Got to get that in there RD. He is top notch. Our recruiting insider Richard Davenport from WholeHogSports and the Democrat-Gazette. Connor Noland after this.”
