Liberty Eylau hopes brutal schedule will equal playoff success

To say Liberty Eylau has a tough schedule in 2018 is quite the understatement. In fact the Leopards play just one team with a losing record last and those opponents averaged nearly 10 wins last season. This includes games against both of last years 4A State Champions.

Steve Wells:
We’ve got one of the tougher schedules in the state 4A wise.

The Leopards feel like they’re up for the challenge with 9-starters back from a team who won 8 games in 2017, including two in the playoffs.

Steve Wells:
We’ve got quite a few of our skill people back. Isaiah Cross will move from wide receiver to quarterback. He’s a very good athlete, duel threat type of kid, we’re looking for a lot of big things from him. He’s a very exciting kid.

But one of the question marks come from the guys who will block for Cross. Coach Wells said they’re going to be a little inexperienced in the trenches.

Steve Wells:
We’re probably not as big as we’ve been in the past in some places, O-Line, D-Line wise but we feel really good about our kids. It’s a really good senior class, they worked hard all summer and we’re looking forward to the challenge of the season.

Those young guys in the trenches will have to grow up in a hurry with that brutal non district schedule that includes state powers Carthage, Argyle and Waco Lavega as well as Texas and Arkansas High.
