Local store offers money-saving baseball bat trade-in

The bases are loaded this Mind, Body, Soul Monday. New bat regulations could mean more money out of our pocket, but Academy Sports and Outdoors is offering help.

“We want to make sure every kid is able to play baseball,” said East Ridge Academy Sports and Outdoors Store Director Juan Fortiz.

But for some little league families, getting out on the field presents new challenges this year because of new bat regulations.

“Any kid under 14 years old is effected because they’re not able to use those bats for Little League, Babe Ruth League, Pony League or Dixie League,” Fortiz explained. “They have to all use the regulated bat.”

In late 2017, Little League International standardized bat rules across the league. www.littleleague.org

Now, young players are required to use a USA bat or BBCOR bat, which could weight on a parents pockets.

That’s why Academy Sports and Outdoors is offering help.

“If you have any bat, whether it’s an old bat in your attic that you’ve had for 50 years or a new bat that doesn’t fit the new regulations, you just bring it into us and we’ll automatically give you 20 percent off any bat you’d like.”

And, Academy is making it easy for you to find the correct bats; each regulated bat has a green USA marking.

So, while little league baseball season can be taxing on the mind, body and soul as young ones hit the bases running, Academy Outdoor and Sports is making sure you have one way to find some peace of mind.

“We love our customers,” said Fortiz. “Academy is all customer based and we want to make sure that you have what you need. Our goal is to be ‘for all for less.'”
