Olympic gold medalist Jennie Finch speaks at FCA Banquet

Brad Cesak said, “I’m here with Jennie Finch, who’s won a gold medal in the Olympics, and is considered one of the best softball players of all time, and you’re here speaking at the FCA banquet tonight. What does this mean to you to be the honored guest?”

Jennie Finch said, “It’s a pleasure. It’s my honor to be here, and to use the platform that God gave me for his glory. Just share and hopefully encourage the next generation, and to tap into what I’ve learned through my journey, and encourage them on theirs.”

Cesak said, “Now you’ve had a lot of big accomplishments over your career on the softball diamond. Looking back, is there any one that sticks out to you?”

Finch said, “Winning the gold. You can’t be that. Being able to compete for your country is something that I’ll never forget, and something that I’ll cherish forever, and that was by far the highlights, being up on that podium in Athens, Greece, with women that I looked up to, and now here I was playing with them. To be able to bring that gold back to the US, it was special.”

Cesak said, “There is a lot of high school softball players in the audience tonight, youth softball players. What’s your message to them to pursue their dream?”

Finch said, “Just go for it. Don’t worry about the hows, the whys, just keep swinging, keep plugging away, and eventually, with a lot of hard work, you never know where you’re going to end up. Whatever role you’re in, be the best you can be. If you’re on the bench, be the best benchwarmer that that coach has ever had, and I think, just being grateful, and keeping things in perspective I think is huge. Knowing that any say on the softball field is a good day.”
