The Pleasant Grove Hawks haven’t lost since early October.
In fact they’ve won seven straight games and 27 of their last 29.
Well the first win in that 7 seven game win streak was over the Pittsburg Pirates.
A team they face this Friday in the state quarterfinals at the Ford Center.
The last time these two played the Hawks used a 21-point second quarter and a shutout by the “D” in the second half to run away in a 45-20 win.
Head coach Josh Gibson knows the old cliche all too well, it’s always tough to beat a god team twice.
Gibson said, “They have three of the best athletes in our district on their team. I think they’ve played their best football outside of our game. They’re 10-3 which is a really good record. They just knocked out Lorena who was 11-1 at the time. I think Pittsburg is playing really good football and they’re confident and executing well.”
As for the Pirates, they’re playing some of their best football of the year of late peaking at just the right time.
In fact Pittsburg has not lost since that Friday night in early October against Pleasant Grove.
Since then they have been rolling, beating their opponents by an average score of 38-17.
Head coach Brad Baca says his guys are looking forward to the chance to knock off the defending champs.
Baca said, “We’ve got a great opportunity, Pleasant Grove is a great football team. We’ve got a good football team too. We’re excited for the challenge, we’re up to it. We’ve got a great plan, we’ve had great practices. What an opportunity, we’re so thrilled to be playing in the 4th round and to get a chance to knock off the defending state champs man wouldn’t that be awesome.”
Pittsburg and Pleasant Grove face off in the State Quarterfinals Friday night at The Ford Center in Frisco, kickoff set for 8:30pm.
