NEW ORLEANS — Tulane head football coach Willie Fritz said character was important as the Wave signed 17 in the early signing period Wednesday.

Fritz said the Wave could sign 3 to 5 more in the class of 2022. Included in the class are three keys transfers.

They are Colorado running back Ashaad Clayton from Warren Easton, TCU defensive tackle Patrick Jenkins from John Ehret, and Notre Dame wide receiver Lawrence Keys from McDonogh 35.

Fritz said he won’t “rush” his search for a new offensive coordinator, to replace Chip Long, who departed for Georgia Tech.

Fritz spoke with reporters Wednesday via zoom.

Here’s the rundown of Tulane’s signing class.

NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane University football team announced the addition of 17 new student-athletes on Wednesday that will suit up for the Green Wave this upcoming fall.

-17 new players added to the squad.
-16 of the new players earned three-star ratings or better from various national recruiting sites across the country.
-Tulane had six different states represented across the country.
-Five incoming Tulane student-athletes are from the state of Louisiana.
-Four of Tulane’s transfer student-athletes earned four-star rankings.
-Three of Tulane’s transfer student-athletes are from the city of New Orleans. 
-WR Jalen Rogers was the first signee to send in his National Letter of Intent.
