FRANKLINTON, La. (AP) — Fire officials say a 10-year-old girl and a 6-year-old boy have died in a fire in northeastern Louisiana.

In a news release, the State Fire Marshal says the fire happened around 12:45 a.m. Wednesday in the Franklinton area of Washington Parish.

Firefighters rescued several people from the house but could not save the two children. Their names have not been released.

Three children — a 6-year-old girl, 4-year-old girl and 3-year-old boy — were rescued and taken by air to Baton Rouge hospitals for treatment.

Two adults were not injured during the fire.

The State Fire Marshal has deputies on the scene and is investigating the cause of the fire.
