A Michigan police officer may have to thank his bulletproof vest for saving his life.
Police say the officer was struck in the torso during a shooting at a business in Kalamazoo Tuesday.
Officials say an employee opened fire there, apparently trying to draw police into an ambush.
The suspect was killed by other officers who came to the scene.
Kalamazoo Police Chief Karianne Thomas says the officer who was struck was likely saved by his vest.
“The officer who was struck by the suspect’s bullet is a two-and-a-half year veteran of KDPS. He was saved today by his bulletproof vest and the quick reaction of his fellow officer.”
The officer is already out of the hospital. Michigan State Police are leading the investigation into the incident.
