WINONA, Texas (KETK) Three people were found shot to death inside a house Monday afternoon. A mother, father, and their 8th-grade daughter were found inside their home on the 900-block of Dallas Street. The 8th-grader has been identified as Olivia Monteagudo, a Winona ISD student.

While officials are investigating what happened, those close to the 8th-grade girl, are mourning her loss.

Staying up late, going to the skate park, and eating until full are just a few of the moments Ashlyne Pickett remembers about her best friend Olivia Monteagudo.

“I love her very much and I’m so thankful for her and everything she’s done for me,” says Pickett, as she wipes away tears.

“We used to slide down on her stairs, and used to eat a lot of Ramon noodles and Chinese noodles, watch Netflix, play fortnight. Her dad took us everywhere,” describes Pickett. The two friends didn’t go to the same school, but met at a nearby skate rink.

Winona ISD became concerned when Monteagudo wasn’t in school Monday morning. After calling the home and receiving no answer, law enforcement went to check on the family.

“We did a welfare check and found three deceased individuals inside the residence,” says Sheriff Larry Smith, with the Smith County Sheriff’s office, during a press conference Monday afternoon.

The Monteagudo family was found dead, leaving those close to them in shock.

“I was just very traumatized, and I didn’t think that it would happen to her and her family, because they were just a blessing to me,” explains Pickett.

Sources close to the investigation tell KETK officials are considering this a murder-suicide. Investigators are asking anyone close to the family questions.

“I love you…you’ll always have a special place in my heart,” words Pickett would like to say to Olivia.

Winona ISD posted on their Facebook, the school is planning to have counselors available for staff and students for the rest of the week.

This is still an open investigation, and KETK will continue to update this story as more information becomes available.
