Winona ISD Superintendent Cody Mize identified the deceased girl in a post on Facebook and offered the district’s condolences to all affected:

“Winona ISD is heartbroken by the loss of one of our students today. On Monday, May 6th, Winona ISD was notified that 8th grader Olivia Monteagudo was found deceased in her home.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family and friends during this difficult time. Counselors will be made available for staff and students as needed throughout the week. We are asking that all counselors, youth pastors, and pastors meet in the Middle School Library tomorrow morning at 7:30 a.m..

Thank you,

Superintendent of Schools”

Smith County Sheriff’s Office confirmed in an update that one of the bodies found was an eighth-grade girl at Winona ISD. Also found dead were her parents.

All 3 bodies were found with gunshot wounds to the head. Autopsies have been ordered and will most likely be performed tomorrow.

Toxicology tests will be taken and the results will most likely come in the next few months.

Sources tell KETK the incident is being investigated as a murder-suicide.

Police were called to the house for a welfare check. Sheriff Larry Smith says this was most likely because the girl did not show up for school.

None of the identities were released, but Sheriff Larry Smith said they will most likely be released tomorrow.

The son of the mother from a previous marriage has been notified.
