On June 22, 1980, Alvin Lee King III, 46, shot and killed five people at the First Baptist Church in Daingerfield, Texas, wounding 10 others. Witnesses who knew King said he had a history of angry outbursts. He had also accidentally killed his own father by shooting him in the face in 1966. As his murder trial was set to commence for the church deaths, King committed suicide by hanging himself in the Morris County Jail.
