Dangerous heat returns to the Arklatex

Heat and humidity to headline the weekend weather in the Arklatex.  Temperatures could approach 100 in spots next week.

Rain was a bit harder to find around the Arklatex Friday.  Under a partly cloudy sky, temperatures began in the low to mid 70s and soared into the low to mid 90s.  Look for rainfall chances to continue to decrease around the area as we go through the weekend and into next week.  A large upper level ridge will settle very close to the area by Monday.  This will put a lid on most of any of those pop up thunderstorms that try to get going.  It will also allow the continued intensification of the heat.

Daytime highs this weekend will be in the mid to upper 90s with the hottest air over the northern half of the area.  Heat index values will likely meet or beat 105 so take it easy in the heat if you have some outdoor plans.  Look for highs to climb into the upper 90s to near 100 degrees next week.  Rainfall chances next week will stay very low as anything that does manage to pop up will be very isolated.

Red River Balloon Rally Saturday Outlook:  Expect a partly cloudy sky and mainly dry condtions during the evening.  A random late afternoon storm cannot be ruled out but if it does form, won't last long.  The evening will begin with temperatures in the low to mid 90s.  We'll cool through the 80s during the evening.

Average High/Low for today's date:  93/73.

Have a great weekend!
