The heat continues today as everyone will at least reach the mid and possibly upper 90s this afternoon. Heat index values will be between 100 and 105 degrees. Our hope for any cool-down will come in the form of a few stray showers after the noon hour.
Another mild to warm morning is in progress with temperatures in the low and mid 70s before sunrise. We will quickly climb through the 80s reaching the 90s by 11 a.m. or noon. Expect lots of sun this morning, before we turn partly cloudy this afternoon. The highest rain chances look to be along the I-49 corridor, but unfortunately most areas will miss the raindrops again today.
The area of high pressure responsible for this late summer heatwave will continue to drift overhead tomorrow, meaning another day of mid to upper 90s heat. The high will begin to release its grip on Thursday as it moves east, dropping temperatures a few degrees.
A cold front will approach the region late this week and into the weekend. Scattered showers and storms look to re-appear Friday through at least Monday. While it won’t be a significant cool down, temperatures will fall back into the upper 80s and low 90s during this time.
The first day of Fall is Saturday, September 22nd.
